so, the last regular season game is march 13...then playoffs start! there are 14 teams in this league (DEL). currently, wyatt's team is in 7th place, but only 1 point behind the 5th and 6th place teams. the top 8 teams make playoffs, but only the top 6 have a for sure spot. teams ranked 7-10 have a "play-in" to get into playoffs. so right now, playoffs are not definite, but seeing how they are playing, i'm guessing by the time the regular season ends they will be in the top 6.
wyatt is playing very well. it's so fun to watch him play again. and it's even more fun to watch him actually having fun playing again!! he would never say this to anyone, but i'm a proud wife so i want to share...the team was in 13th place before wyatt came. now, i'm not saying it's because of only him that the team has somewhat turned around, but i know he has a lot to do with it! he has 11 points and is a +6 right now. his european agent told him that the organization is very happy with him-both as a player and as a leader in the locker room...(again, proud wife)!
in case anyone wants to see how the season is going, his team website is:
www.erc-ingolstadt.de
it's a german website (obviously) but there is a link to translate the page. there are several pictures and somewhat easy to follow once you become familiar with it.
quick story about hockey in this town...the fans are great and are very loyal to this team. it's obvious to tell that, as the girls and i were at the grocery store and once i handed our credit card (with wyatt's name on it) to the clerk, she immediately started taking 1000 mph, in german, to me. the only thing i actually understood was ice hockey ice hockey ice hockey ice hockey. so i smiled and nodded. she kept saying something, with more force and getting louder. again, i smiled and nodded. finally she used her hands, said "puck. namen. wyatt smith." then she pointed at herself, said "gerta. puck. wyatt smith. namen." she was clearly frustrated that it was taking me this long to figure it out. there was an extremely long line behind me. i was again, wiping my sweaty palms on my pants. but then i got it! she wanted a signed puck from wyatt for her, gerta! so, now whenever we are at the store and gerta is working, she waves us over to her line and always has some sort of treat for ruby and a pat on the head for birdie :)
I love the grocery store story! That's hysterical. You're like celebrities! :) And I love that Ruby calls Calla "Bird." So sweet. :)
