our first hockey game in germany!

we arrived in germany on saturday evening and wyatt had a game on sunday night. we weren't sure if we were going to go, but we decided it would be good to get out of the house. and i hadn't seen wyatt play hockey in a long time, so i was excited! rebecca, a girlfriend of one of the players on the team, was nice enough to go with us. she helped with the girls and showed me around the arena. she's actually from bemidji, mn. small world!
the games are so different from nhl or ahl. i think they are so much more fun. the fans are crazy! and everything seems to be very family oriented, which is so nice! they have a meal for the families between the first two periods and dessert between the last two. i asked ruby if she wanted any food. she chose broccoli and cauliflower. bypassed everything else. they had peach cobbler and warm donuts for dessert. she said no to those as well. until she saw tobin schaefer (a little boy of one of the players on wyatt's team). she didn't want her own. she wanted his. she went up to him. took it from his hand and helped herself to a bite. i thought it was only finley that she did this to. guess not! we will be working on manners, i guess :)
calla slept in her bjorn the entire game. she wore her fuzzy booties from the hutchinsons and everyone commented on them. i have NO idea what they said, as it was all in german, but they pointed at the booties and smiled, so i'm guessing they were a hit!
it's tradition here after home wins that the players bring their kids onto the ice after the game for the fans to see. some of the other children get so nervous and don't want to go out there. i wasn't sure how ruby would react, but decided to try. sure enough, she loved every second of it!! wyatt skated her around the ice and she had a huge smile on her face the entire time while waving at all of the fans. we were laughing in the car on the way home thinking about this little person in a new home and new country...and she has no idea! she just has so much fun with everything she does. it makes this transition so much easier on us knowing that the kids are happy! i loved seeing how proud wyatt was to show off his baby girls. unfortunately calla had to stay with me during the skating because i obviously was not going to let him skate with both girls...too dangerous! maybe next game he can take calla. ruby might not like that, as she was quite the little crowd pleaser last time. we'll see!
i'm so bummed that i didn't take any pictures during this, but carrying calla in the bjorn, ruby on my hip, and the diaper bag on my shoulder, i didn't have room for anything else! i will post some pictures of the girls soon. until next time...

  1. Sounds like you are adjusting and Ruby especially. Kids are so resilient. Being together as a family is so important. I'm glad that you are all together. Take time to explore the area. It is beautiful in Germany and the food is great, although probably not the best for the waistline. Loved reading about your "new life" and keeping up on the girls. Take care....Julie
